Coleophoridae

0490a Coleophora luteochrella male

Those of you who collect in southern Europe may be interested in the discovery of a new species of Coleophora, recently described in the journal SHILAP.

The species, which highly resembles
C. luitpennella in external features, has only just been described by Giorgio Baldizzone and Jukka Tabell.

Kind permission has been given by Giorgio and Jukka to circulate the above photo to this web site.

The differences between this and
C. lutipennella are quite straightforward in that the transtilla in C. luteochrella is deeply wedged and very different to C. Lutipennella.

The known distribution for this species is from a few localities in southern, eastern and northern Portugal and from southern Spain. It seems to be associated with deciduous woodland with
Quercus. Anyone travelling to this area ought to keep a look out for it and indeed it may turn up in southern France and further afield.
